Family ttragedy--
In 2002 tragedy struck the Powell family when one of Asafa's brothers, Michael Powell, was shot dead in a taxi in New York. This emotional event happened the week of the Jamaica National Trials. In 2003, Asafa lost another brother during the week of the Jamaica National Championships. One year after the death of Michael, Vaughn Powell suffered a heart attack while playing a game of American Football. Powell is known to be occasionally shy but nonetheless good natured and somewhat of a joker. He is good friends with compatriot, 100 and 200 metre world record holder Usain BoltUsain BoltUsain St. Leo Bolt, OJ, C.D. , is a Jamaican sprinter and a three-time World and Olympic gold medalist. He is the world record and Olympic record holder in the 100 metres, the 200 metres and the 4 x 100 metres relay...
The two are often seen joking around and do meet off the track. He is also a boyfriend of professional beautyqueen Yendi Phillipps Powell is known as an avid car enthusiast.

Cecil Archibald Baugh, Jamaican potter (b. Nov. 22, 1908, Bangor Ridge, Jam.—d. June 28, 2005, Kingston, Jam.), was one of the most influential Caribbean potters of the 20th century and was renowned for works that showcased his artistry and technical creativity. · Vice Admiral Matthew Henry Scott (1775-1837), Royal Navy Admiral. Born in Jamaica, the son of a wealthy planter, he joined the Royal navy at an early age and served at the reduction of Martinique and St Lucia, being promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral in 1812, his flag being hoisted on board the “Chatham”. Scott later commanded the British and Russian amphibious force that landed at South Beveland, and was later promoted Vice-Admiral (1819).

Robert Hibbert (1770-1849), British Merchant and Philanthropist. Born in Jamaica, he was a slave-owner there, before moving to England in 1847, where he founded the Hibbert Trust, whose funds,in 1878, applied to the Hibbert Lectures, and also aided the Hibbert Journal (1920-1970).

· Sir Stamford Raffles (1781-1826), English Administrator and Founder of Singapore. Raffles was born at sea off Port Morant, Jamaica, the son of a sea cook. He was appointed to a clerkship in the East India House, and in 1805 secretary to an establishment at Penang. He was appointed lieutenant-governor of Java in 1811 and completely reformed the internal administration of the country. Raffles later served as Lieutenant-Governor of Bengkulu in West Sumatra (1818-1823), and formed, without authority, a settlement at Singapore to counter Dutch influence in the area, but had to return to England in 1824. Raffles was also an accomplished oriental scholar and it was he that founded the London Zoo, serving as the first preside
