Kronstadt Uprising is the event in Russian Civil War. The rebellion took place in March of 1921 and its goal was to set up a free Soviet in the area, it was sparked by the Bolshevik attempt to take total control of the economy by stripping local population of the ability to define their internal interactions.
The rebellion was led by Stepan Petrichenko and in the beginning consisted mainly of sailors and soldiers, with civilians quickly beginning to support it.
This rebellion was crushed quite brutally under command of Leon Trotsky in the same month that it began and many those who took part in it, that were not killed during the actual rebellion, were subsequently executed.
Links with anarchism
While not all the involved in the rebellion were anarchists, a lot of them were, and this rebellion is considered to be one of the main events in the history of anarchist movement. The demands of "Free Soviets" would put the rebels well within anarcho-communist or anarcho-syndicalist philosophy.
