The name pretty much says it all. Where were our ancestors at the time of the revolutionary war? Did they fight? How did the war affect them?

My intent in this project is to identify the ancestors, based upon the current state of the family tree, and see if I can learn where they were and what they were up to.

Current Identified Revolutionary War Participants:

  • William Morse (1726 in Newbury, MA - 1806 in Andover MA) Marched on the Alarm at Lexington 1775, Member John Peabody's Co, 1778, served with Cambridge Mass Guards, John Bodwell's Co. 1778
  • Samuel Huntington (1759 in Norwich, CT - 1823 ) enlisted from Norwich as Sergeant in 1777 and served 3 years.
  • Elam Jewett (b 1746) served several stints with the Revolutionary Army, lastly as a Sergeant.
  • Benjamin Comings (1755 ) served in the revolutionary war, and may have been promoted to Colonel
  • Moses Jewett (1737 - ~1827) Served in Capt. Daniel Gordon's Co., Col. David Gilman's Reg., raised out of Regt., commanded by Nicholas Gilman to reinforce the Continental Army at N.Y. (Moses and Elam Jewett are 4th cousins).
  • Anthony Emery b 1713 member of Committee of Safety, Hampton, NH DAR Ancestor #: A036535

Elam and Moses Jewett are 4th cousins, related through their 3rd Great Grandfather Edward Jewett. The two trees recombine with George H Comings and Catherine M Evans with George being a descendant of Elam, and Catherine M being a descendant of Moses. Of course this makes George H and Catherine M cousins - Edward is George's 7th Great Grandfather, and Catherine's 8th Great Grandfather - so they were 9th cousins once removed.

Open Questions:

  • Hunting down more evidence that Jeremiah Bradley served in the Rev. War.
  • Driving back the line of Henry Hoskins
  • Doing more extensive searches on the the other male members
  • Perhaps producing a table of where everyone was living at time
