Thank you for your interest. Documentation of individual families and gathering of information about the Vallarta families in the Philippines is ongoing.
If you are a Vallarta, please join the Vallarta Family Group on Facebook: [https://www.facebook.com/groups/vallartaPH].
Vallarta families in Luzon originated from Nueva Ecija, most of which are still residing in the municipalities of San Isidro, Jaen, Laur and
Talavera and in the cities of Cabanatuan and Gapan.
The families in Candelaria and Mulanay, Quezon and Infanta, Pangasinan all originated from Nueva Ecija.
There is a considerably large number of Vallarta families residing in southern Cebu, in the municipalities of Boljoon, Alcoy, Dalaguete and Argao.
The Vallarta surname was included in the alphabetical catalog accompanying Governor General Narciso Claveria's decree of 1849, requiring Filipinos to "select" new last names.

It is still uncertain whether the Vallarta forebears took the surname from the catalog or have previously held it and were allowed to continue its use.
Filipinos who already had surnames could keep them as long as they were not on a list of banned names. However, families that already had a restricted surname could keep it if they could prove that they had been using it for at least four generations (Morrow, 2006).
