F.V. Windell
Schalk Willem van der Merwe Windell

Died: 19th June 1903 Kalomo
Age: 23
Profession: Prospector and Trader
Son of Henry James Windell and Rachel Magdalena Windell
N.A. Page
Born: “Stephen Harris” alias - Mannie Arthur Page
From: Maidenhead Berkshire England
Died: 15th February 1904 Kalomo
Age: 42
Profession: Bricklayer
There is a possibility that in 1881 he had enlisted as a private in the 2nd Battalion, 23rd Regiment of Foot under his birth name of Stephen Harris.
J.W.D. Jameson
John (James) William Dale Jameson
Born: 5th August 1878 Lota Dublin Ireland.
Died: 7th July 1904 Kalomo
Age: 26
Profession: Sub Inspector in Barotse Native Police
Jameson was part of the B.S.A.P. contingent to Fort Monze in 1898 and is credited with establishing a Post in the Mazabuka area (Geoff Godson’s farm). He was a participant in the Anglo Boer War and had enlisted into the 89th Welsh Imperial Yeomanry and was mentioned in Dispatches on 29th July 1902.
A.H. Helberg
Adam Hendrik (Henry) Helberg
Born: 3rd January 1877; Waterberg Tvl South Africa.
Died: 2nd October 1904 near Tara Siding, Kalomo
Profession: Transport Rider
Young Hendrik lost his father when he was a year old. His mother “Anna de Beer” died in 1883 when he was six years old, at which the time he became the ward of his older brother Johannes Zachariah. Johannes was fifteen years old at the time. Together the brothers used their father’s ox wagon to transport goods.
From the Helberg family;
“As they were going along in the semi darkness of early morning; Adam Hendrik heard something in the bush. Thinking it was one of the cows that had come up from behind; he lashed out with his whip; it did not happen to be a cow at all, but a lion and he did not take kindly to being whipped. The lion charged Adam Hendrik, breaking his neck.”
W.C. du Bois
Walter Clifford du Bois
Born: 1st April 1881. Heidelberg. Tvl. South Africa
Died: 22nd June 1905 Kalomo
There are some accounts that he was buried in Broken Hill (Kabwe), but as there are no records of a du Bois being buried there nor anywhere else it can be assumed that thebperson buried in Kalomo is indeed Walter Clifford. His father was Walter Alfred du Bois and was a store keeper in Heidelberg South Africa.
T. Petrie
Died 24th August 1905 Kalomo
Although we are unable to find any definitive proof we have some reason to believe that this could be the same Thomas Petrie who was a Trooper in the Gwelo Volunteers in Southern Rhodesia 1896. Next of kin was listed as his mother who resided at Elmvale, Cathcart, Glasgow, Scotland. There is no record of Thomas having served during the Anglo Boer war of 1899 - 1902 but a ships manifest of 1899 (SS Norman - Cape Town to Southampton) lists a T. Petrie age 41 as a prospector amongst its passengers. He may well have returned after hostilities had ceased and made his way back to North Western Rhodesia. Other than information in the District Note Books stating his name and date of death, no other information can be found about this person.
D. MaCrae
Donald McRae
