The Anderegg family came to this country in the early sixties from the Bernese Oberland mountains of central Switzerland. The principal town in the valley is Meiringen. The name AN DER EGG means "At the top". In Switzerland, the suffix, "egg," appears frequently. For instance, many of the old castle names end in "egge." which means a high spot of eminence. There was a tradition around Meiringen that the family once lived in the castle, the ruins of which lie just east of the the town. The Andereggs are generally regarded in Switzerland as having belonged to the ancient Swiss nobility.
