Not much exists about the first Arcand in America. In 1994, genealogist André Clément wrote in an article in the Revue de la Société généalogique canadienne-française that little information exists about Simon Arcand dit Bourdelais apart from mentions in genealogical dictionaries and in the book Nos ancêtres au XVIIe siècle by Archange Godbout published between 1951 and 1953.
Only one Arcand arrived from the old country to settle in New France, but his descendants gave rise to a great lineage that still bears his name today.
