The January name in the u.s. was originally spelled in France "Janvier". Thomas January born in Ile de Re,France was a French Huguenot. After the Edit of Nantes was revoked the Huguenots fled to England and our Thomas became an indentured servant and came to Philadelphia and then settled in New Castle,Delaware. Much research has been done thru out the years. Check the Winterthur Library in Wilmington,Del as many of the Janviers/January's had left their research papers there in the genealogy section. Also there were many "Janviers" going back to the 1600's in Quebec,Canada. Chief Justice John Marshall was 1st cousin to Elizabeth Marshall January who married Samuel January in Maysville,Ky
