About the Saxe-Coburg and Gotha surname

In 1917, the First World War caused George V to change from "Saxe-Coburg and Gotha" to the House of Windsor in the United Kingdom. In Belgium, after the World War in 1920, the name was unofficially changed to "de Belgique" (French), "van België" (Dutch) or "von Belgien" (German), meaning "of Belgium".

Princess victoria

The name Saxe-Coburg-Gotha came into the British Royal Family in 1840 with the marriage of Queen Victoria to Prince Albert, son of Ernst, Duke of Saxe-Coburg & Gotha. Queen Victoria herself was the last monarch of the House of Hanover. The House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha as a British dynasty was short-lived.
