Vercoe Name Meaning
English (Cornwall): unexplained. Compare Varcoe. The confusion is simply one of interpretation due to local accent. REMEMBER the Cornish are not ENGLISH! They are Britons, as are the Welsh and of Course the Britons of Britany. The English were recent invaders, as were the Normans, Vikings and Saxons. The Romans invaded Briton but they eventually scarped back to Rome, NOTE: Do not call Cornish, Welsh, Scottish, Irish and other originals of Great Britain English! The English are German - from Saxony. Now back to the Varcoe/Vercoe name. Varcoe, or Varkow are the traditional spelling as far back as we have recordings c1500-1600. Now the reason so many misspell the name is 'listen to a Cornishman, or women pronounce car and you will hear “cer”. We have the same problem with the Southlanders in New Zealand. Conclusion - Varcoe is the correct spelling, Vercoe is the correct pronouncation.
