To answer my own question - would this be the best help portal for the plaza ?

Dimitri I really like the way this is coming along for me. I see some gaps of portals that need to be made

- Arts & Entertainment
- Notables

I've identified my own pet projects

http://www.geni.com/projects/Scandalous-Women/1484
http://www.geni.com/projects/Robbers-Rustlers-and-Rogues/15138

And it's an easier format to work with than the compact / over stuffed

http://www.geni.com/projects/Guide-sur-les-projets-de-conservateurs...

Hope others find it useful too.

Thank you.

First of all a GOOD morning to everybody!

Secondly, Brendan, your Espresso is served :)
Very anxious to hear how you are getting along with your personal project page. sofar. Give us a shout if you need any help with, ok?

And finally, I am so glad to hear, Erica, that the Plaza is working out for you :) I see you have progressed in the making of your project since yesterday and it is looking Fab!!!

for others, check it out for yourself:

Terry, are you ready for activating your link on Geni's Project Producers Plaza? From what I have seen, the way your project is going since last night, it could absolutely do no harm in doing so.

But it's your call :)

Terry's personal project has it's link on the Plaza activated. Check it out:

Is it maybe a good idea to give the various lists op the Personal Project Page (PPP), a description name of the subject, like Anne-Marie has done here?

http://www.geni.com/projects/Healy-s-Projects/26591

Gives it a quick oversight of the several categories, and makes you pick a category you prefer the most, more easily.

The less time a visitor has to decide what to choose from, what to read, the less it feels the need to leave your page for what it is.

Peoples visiting behaviour of websites can be compared with channel zappers on front of the tele. They need to be entertained in the shortest amount of time.

Quick subject overviews, short compact information, not to many choices to be made what link to visit. The rules count for projects here on Geni as well.

Although you must assume the general Geni user spends more time reading into stuff. True.

Then again, I can imagine everybody is always busy with something else on Geni. Joining projects is sometimes more a sign of appreciation of the projects contents, than actually participate and/or collaborate actively.

All the more reason to keep the info on your personal page compact and appealing at the same time.

Send me a PM, Wendy, and let us see where I can be of help to you on that project, ok?

We got another customer on board the project, Justin Swanström.

Still a bit of work in progress, he says, but I do not think he is alone on that one, I am guessing :)

Go check it out:

I had wine and cheese on my table first, where is it gone? ;)

See, this is great. I was debating putting http://www.geni.com/projects/Captured-by-Indians/18623 in my "pocket" but now I don't have to - it's on Justin's page. Makes it so much easier to remember to go visit that project.

And I see I should add https://www.geni.com/projects/Spurious-Pedigrees/10512 to my "pet projects" section. Justin collaborates & contributes to it, of course; no need for it on his coherent listing unless he wants to for "flow."

Oops, I didn't think you had a drinking problem LOL!
Another good wine and cheese on the way, madam Healey!!

Shall I just add a whole bottle with it, to keep you happy for a little while longer? Anyway, your order is back on your table :)

Dimitri, I want a crate of wine on my table. Chianti preferably...
How do I start? I pimped my personal page with some text on projects but I need some help with doing it properly. I created and contributed to many projects, many of them not finished yet. When I search projects with search term Amstel I get 83. How to organise all that?

Hi Andre, of course I will be reserve a table for you!

In the meantime I created a document which could give you a bit more lead on how to participate:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PwubUxXk0sEzPHjO9SPTfOsPxDmfW5j...

I also paste this link on the Plaza.

(And believe, you are not the only one, having troubles with organise your Personal Project Page)

In the meantime I will see what I can do about that crate of Chianti LOL

Might be worth it, Andre, to start creating your project already on Geni, so others customers on the Plaza could maybe give you some feedback on it if you want, while you are in the process of creating?

Very nice organization Justin Durand. So many good examples to follow when I finally get time to set my page up.

I see you have started your PPP, Ronald.

Let me know when you want me to active your link on the Plaza :)

Meanwhile the Personal Project Page of Leslie Ann has an active link on the Plaza now! Go check it out :

http://www.geni.com/projects/Leslie-Ann/26618

There are names for portal projects in Leslie Ann's tasty plaza that need to get made, I believe.

Sports
Religion
Entertainment

Do notice what Justin is doing at the moment on his PPP. He is writing little intro's per list. Works really well, I think!

http://www.geni.com/projects/Justin-Swanstrom/26599

Starting to, anyway. It's an experiment ;)

You are on the right track there, Justin :) Please do carry on!

Wow, Justin.
I didn't even know there was such a thing as fictional genealogy. And that some people believe there are physical descendants of Odin. Your ppp has certainly taught me a thing or two. Thanks.

;)

Hmm... Well you could be descendant from Woden - the wanderer (I think there's some historic documen on it, but won't say there is), but not Odin - the god.

I just came in on what Brendan said. Ran into this on my research about two weeks ago, myself. Made me laugh.

Also ran into "Atun" in Egyptian myths. O.O

Makes me think of the Greek Olympian, Hercules -the real person, versus the Legend of Hercules as demigod.

not really the same people, although they started that way.
I think it was Hercules I'm thinking of.
A better example might be found in the Battle of Troy, and you can take your pick in that. Real person verses legend of that person.

...I'm just talking...

I've started. I have a lot more to do.

Good luck :)

I had a minor issue. Some of my project names have special characters and the piped links are not showing up correctly. Maybe one of you has also encountered and solved this problem?

Take a look at my project.

Characters without special accents on need another code here in Wiki to translate that,

otherwise it is not possible to make it an active link.

I went to the project pages of the links who aren't active, copied the URL's and paste them and I had no problem whatsoever.

Such a code sor a single character with accent can look like this for example: %C5%A
