About Aloysius Seitz
Rev. Aloysius J. Seitz S.M. was ordained a priest at Fribourg, Switzerland in 1928 after making his first vows as a Society of Mary Brother at Mount St John in 1913. Rev. Seitz taught at St. Mary School,Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Superiorship and taught Philosophy and History at Mt. St. John, West Philadelphia and Hamilton Catholic High Schools, Marianist Preparatory, Beacon, New York and Drama Director and Principal of Purcell High School, Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1947 he was Head of the Latin and German Department and Counselor at Chaminade High School in Dayton Ohio. Father Seitz message to the boys at Purcell: “The results of life are various, but the most important and permanent of them is character. A man’s character is the aggregate of all the dispositions, tastes, purposes, and habits of soul, in a word, whatever helps to constitute his moral identity. It is terribly important because of the influence it exerts. Individually and collectively your lives are held up before others like a picture before the artist’s eye, which he is to study. Your character commands the good or sanctions the evil. It points to heaven or leads the way to hell. Noiselessly but effectively, it is ever at work. It admonishes, it inspires, it cheers, it guides; or on the other hand, it misleads and perverts. Make certain yours is that of a Cavalier, a true Catholic gentleman.”
