John Hardy I was the first Hardy in our line of descent to come to America. He

was born in Dorsetshire, England (1665). His father was John Noble Hardy, who wa

born about 1639 at Pembroke, Wales, the son of Anthony Hardy I (1605-1665). John

Hardy I married Charity OÆDyer in about 1684. He originally came to Virginia and

moved to North Carolina in 1704 and owned much property with his son (John II)

along Salmon Creek. Charity was the daughter of Gabriel and Mary OÆDyer from

Cornwall, England (later living in Westmoreland County, VA). John Hardy I died

himself. Charity Hardy, William Hardy, Mary Hardy, William Hardy, John Hardy

Jr., Thomas Hardy and Jacob Hardy, N. Chevin Clerk of the Court. from the

records of Albemarle Co. at Edenton, NC"

John (prob. John Sr., William and Jacob were all on the list of Freeholders

living between Salmon Creek and Cashy River in Bertie Co. NC 9 Jan 1719.

"The roots of the North Carolina family extend from Chowan and New Bern in about

1695, back through VA to the old country. The beginning of the family goes back

to Anthon Hardy, I of Pembroke, Wales, b. 1605, d. 1665. He had a son, John

Noble or Noble Worthington Hardy, b. in 1638, at Pembroke, Wales, who moved to

Dorchestershire, England. He is credited with four sons, all of whom are said to

have come to America prior to 1695. They were John, Thomas, Joseph, and Anthony

Hardy. It is not known whether Thomas or Joseph had any children or came to
