1838, George Hills ( father of this Charles) - in a "Deed of Arrangement", received an advance of 3300 British Pounds against the settlement (of his marriage to Diana) from 1814. This was in agreement with his brother-in-law Charles Hammersley. George made notes that this advance was to pay Cambridge University expenses for his second son, Charles as well as expenses for his youngest son, Thomas, who was leaving home for India.
1847 September 20th - A letter to Charles' father (at that time Captain George Hills R.N.) in Cambridge from George Baker refers to 'many causes of distress in your family circle both at Ashen (Hills home) and at Cambridge", where Charles was resident. [George Baker was Col. in 16th Lancers - husband of Caroline, nee Barker, who was George Hills cousin)

Also are two advertisements for recent Cambridge Divinity Students to attain suitable teaching positions and to send correspondence to Mr Robert Hill, care of T. A. Court's Mallet, Shipton Moyne, .
