About Dr Cornelius Luce
Dr. Cornelius Luce, physician and cordwainer, was born to Hezekiah and Thankful (Look) Luce. He married twice: Olive Foster in Tisbury in 1780 and Sophia Smead (widow of Anson Green) in 1796 in Ashfield, Massachusetts. He died leaving 13 children, 8 from his second wife, all 1-16 years old (sic; he actually left 14 plus a step-daughter). He was a physician in practice in Ashfield about 1810 for a few years and lived about half a mile north of the "Plain".
