Elizabeth Winter was the dau. of Samuel3, John2, John1. Her great-grandfather, John Winter, came from England in 1633 and settled in Watertown, Mass., his occupation being that of a tanner. Two of his sons, Richard and Thomas, and a daughter, Alice, remained in London, from which fact it is inferred that he also was of that city. He d. This Thomas came from Lmcolnshell, England, in 1630, and settled in Watertown. The wife of John2 Philbrick was Ann Palmer. The wife of Ephraim3 Philbrick and mother of Elizabeth, wife of Samuel Winter, was Elizabeth, dau. of Ellis2 Barron, Ellis1. The elder Ellis Barron was of Watertown before 1641, where he was Constable and Selectman. His son Ellis settled in Lancaster, Mass., and married Hannah, dau. of Timothy Hawkins, who came to Watertown in 1635.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Samuel Winter and Elizabeth Philbrick of Groton, Mass. and Killingly, Connecticut. She was most likely born in Killingly, though her baptism on 7 Jan 1728 is found in the Putnam, CT church records. She was married in Killingly 1 Jan 1746/7 to Samuel CADY, the son of Stephen Cady and Abigail Lee of Killingly. She and her husband moved to Shutesbury, Mass., and raised a family of ten children. Following her husband's death, she went to live with family in Prescott, Mass., and died at the age of 103. Her daughter Abigail and husband Samuel Crossett were both buried in the Fish Hill Cemetery in Prescott, and it is likely that Elizabeth was buried in the same plot. She outlived eight of her ten children, and when it came time to bury her, her grandchildren probably did not erect a monument.

In 1939, when the Fish Hill Cemetery was being evacuated in preparation for flooding by a new reservoir, most of the remains were reinterred in the Quabbin Park Cemetery in Ware, Mass. When daughter Abigail and husband Samuel Crossett were moved, there were four "unknowns" buried in their plot, and the assumption is that Elizabeth was one of them. She is therefore being placed here, though no record has been found to confirm this.
