Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church for Frances K. Schreifels, 98, who died Tuesday at Pine Villa Care Center.
Interment will be in the parish cemetery.Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Patton-Schad Funeral Home. Melrose Senior Citizens will pray at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home in Melrose followed by Melrose VFW Auxiliary, Christian Mothers and St. Elizabeth's Society at 7 and parish prayers at 8.
Frances Schreifels was born in Richmond to George and Theresa (Mehr) Kron. She married John P. Schreifels on Oct. 26, 1920, in Richmond. The couple farmed near Richmond until moving to the Melrose area in 1942.
She entered Koronis Manor, Paynesville, in December 1979. She was a resident of Pine Villa Care Center for more than 10 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Senior Citizens, Melrose VFW Auxiliary, St. Elizabeth's Society and Christian Mothers.
Survivors include daughters and sons, Ellen Primus of Hawley, Esther Steinemann of Freeport, Delphine Gieske of Paynesville, Howard of Coon Rapids, Celesta Denne of Bismarck, N.D., Victor, Cyril, Alice Moening and Iris Hiltner of Melrose; sisters and brother, Loretta Neu of Paynesville, Clara Heibel and Norbert of St. Cloud; 36 grandchildren; and 72 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter and son, Julia and Marcellus; sisters and brothers, Theresa Schumann, Hildegard Klein, Cecelia Schreifels, Eleanor Heibel, George, Herbert, Ben, Al, Elmer and Edward.
