About Joseph LaBay

Joseph was the oldest son of Hubert Dessalier AKA: Peter LaBay & Jane Campbell.
He left home while still a young teenager. Various members of the family tried to find him, but with no success.
He had gone south to Vermont and joined the Union Army to fight in the Civil War. He was in Company "D" of the 3rd Vermont Volunteer Infantry.
He was wounded and captured at Yorktown on April 16th, 1862 and died 5 days later on April 21st, 1862. He is listed as "James Lebery" on a monument in Shackoe Hill Cemetery.
The connection was discovered in 2005 by his great-great nephew, Raymond LaBay.
