Death of Mr. T. Shepard, J.P (Northampton Mercury - Saturday 26 April 1884)

Mr Thomas Shepard, J.P., of the firm of Messrs. Rymer and Shepard, died on Sunday night at his residence on the Billing-road. Deceased was a much-esteemed member of the Roman Catholic Church, and had been a borough magistrate for many years. He leaves a widow and six sons and daughters. Symptons of the fatla turn of his illness would take were apparant on Thursday, chronic bronchitis being the ailmenet from which he suffered.
As stated above, he expired on Sunday evening, aged 71. He was appointed a justice of the peace in 1868, but of late had rarely attended the bench owing to the infirmities of old age.

The burial took place on Thursday morning, the place of sepulture the burial ground of the Roman Catholic Cathederal.

Among the mourners were Mr J.S. Shepard, Mr. Thomas Shepard, Mr. William B. Shepard, Mr. Thomas Collingridge, Mr J.B. Boshell, the Very Rev. Canon Collis, Mr. Jules Dent Young and Mr Eugene McLonghlin.

The coffin ... bore .. the following inscription: "Thomas Shepard, born January 9, 1813 died April 18, 1884" engraved and filled in red and black"
