From the Family Bible of Fred Arledge, of McMinnville, Tennessee - obtained by Janice (Mrs. Eugene) Arledge in July of 1979:

Two dates were given for Leonidas' birthdate. Feb. 22, 1842 and Feb. 23, 1843 in Randolph County, N. Carolina.

Birth entry: Leonidas Washington Puckett Arledge the first child of H.W. Arledge & Betsey M. Arledge, his wife, was born about 8 o'clock A.M. on Tuesday February 22 A.D. 1842.

Death entry: Leonidas W.P. Arledge was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga on Saturday P.M. September the 19th A.D. 1863.

Military records from Jo Askew from Co. D, 18th TN Infantry. Appears on Company Muster Roll 31 Dec 1861, enlisted 23 May 1861 at Murfreesboro, TN, by J.B. Palmer. Company Muster-in Roll dated 7 Aug 1861 shows that LWP Arledge, age 18, joined for duty and enrolled at Camp Trousdale. This company was captured at Fort Donaldson, TN 16 Feb 1863. As Corpl. LWP Arledge, appears on Roll of Prisoners of War at Camp Butler, Springfield, IL, captured at Fort Donaldson on 16 Feb 1862; sent from Camp Butler to Vicksburg, MS Sept 23, 1862 on board the steamer John Dove to be exchanged. The company was reorganized in Sept. 1862 and declared exchanged at Aiken's Landing Nov 10, 1862. As 3 Sgt, appears on Company Muster Roll in July, Aug, Sept and Oct 1863. Killed in the Battle of Chicamauga. On a strange note, it appears that on the Company Muster Roll of 23 Jan 1864 near Dalton, GA, LWP Arledge was promoted to Fourth Serg't on 8 Oct. 1862.
