Fought in the French and Indian War. Later was commissioned to build muskets for the Revolutionary War. His muskets are certified and listed, have a marked stamp on them. He built a glass factory and blacksmith shop which he later converted into an Amory.His Amory was located in Westfield, Massachusetts. The British troops sought out his factory but were never able to discern the location. He was the great grandfather of our twenty second president, Grover Cleveland. There is a marker dedicated to him within 9 miles of the location of Shay's Rebellion which occurred 1786-1787. The marker's inscription states 'A friend of Liberty and his Country, Soldier in the American Revolution, Armorer to the 18th Mass. regiment, Built armory at Mt. Tekoa circa 1765, Made muskets for the patriot cause'.
