Born on the Kendrick Ridge, near Mariba, Menifee Co, KY. Died at his home on the Clear Creek Road in the little community called Young' Valley.

Robert Earl's mother Mae (Slater) Simpkins, died when he was five weeks old. He was raised by his grandparents Richard A & Eliza Louisa (Kendrick) Simpkins.

Never liked his given name Robert and only used his middle name Earl. Only two records can be found where he is listed as Robert. The 1910, census and his grandfather William Richard Slater' will dated 1924.

Married 25 Dec 1928, Menifee Co, KY., Flotilla "Flo" Ann Little.
