About Cde. Rodrigo el Velloso Pérez de Traba

Rodrigo Pérez de Traba (floruit 1111–1158/65), called el Velloso ("the Hairy"), was a Galician magnate who rose to prominence after the coronation of Alfonso VII as co-ruler of León in 1111. He served Alfonso at court in his early years, but was given increased responsibility in Galicia after the death of Alfonso's mother, Queen Urraca (1126). After about 1132 he became increasingly involved in the politics of Portugal, whose invasion of Galicia he supported in 1137. Even after León and Portugal made peace in 1141 Rodrigo was largely excluded from Leonese politics, with the notable exception of the military campaigns of 1147, until 1152. An undated charter names “comes domnus Fernandus et domnus Ueremudus et domnus Garssia et domnus Uelascus et comes domnus Rodericus dictus Uelusu et domna Luba” as the children of "domno Petro Froyle"[2776]. "Maior Roderici…cum filiis et filiabus meis Roderico Petriz, Velasco Petriz, Garsia Petriz, Tota Petriz, Urraca Petriz, Sancia Petriz, Gelvira Petriz, Alduara Petriz" donated property in Valdunquillo to Sahagún monastery, for the soul of "mariti mei comitis domni Petri de Gallecia", by charter dated 1125[2777]. Alférez of Alfonso VII "el Emperador" King of Castile and Leon 26 Sep 1119. "…Rudericus Petriz Alferiz Regis…" subscribed the charter dated 26 Sep 1119 under which "Rex Dominus Adefonsus Hispanie ducis domini Reimundi et regine domine Urrace filius" donated property to the monastery of San Julián de Moraimo "in terra de Traba", with the consent of "domini Petri Galecie comitis"[2778]. The Chronica Adefonsi Imperatoris records that "…the sons of Count Pedro Fróilaz…Rodrigo who was later made count by him and also Velasco and García and Vermudo who held great lordships in Galicia…" made peace with Alfonso VII King of Castile in Galicia after his accession in 1126[2779]. "…Comes Rudericus de Traua…" subscribed the charter dated 13 Nov 1127 under which King Alfonso VII donated "el castillo de San Jorge en la Sierra del Pindo" to Santiago de Compostela[2780]. “Dominus Guterrius Veremundi prolis…cum uxore mea comitissa Toda Consulis Petri filia” donated property to Lugo on his deathbed by charter dated 1 Nov 1130, confirmed by “Consul Dominus Rodericus Sarriensis, Comes Dominus Munio, Comes Dominus Rodericus Petriz, Comitissa Domina Urraca, Comitissa Domina Lupa”[2781]. "…Comes Rudericus de Sarria, Comes Rudericus de Traua, Comes Gomez de Toronio…" subscribed the charter dated 18 Mar 1131 under which King Alfonso VII granted privileges to officials of the church of Santiago de Compostela[2782]. "Aldefonsus…tocius Hyspanie imperator…cum uxore mea imperatrice domna Rica et…filiis meis Sanctio et Ferrando regibus" donated property to the abbey of Silos by charter dated 28 Oct 1155, confirmed by "Comes Rudericus Petriz…"[2783].

m (before 15 Dec 1155) FRONILDE Fernández, daughter of FERNANDO Núñez & his wife Mayor Rodríguez (-after 10 Feb 1187). Barton names Fronilde Fernández as daughter of Fernando Núñez and Mayor Rodríguez, and niece of Conde Gómez Núñez[2784]. "Comitissa Fronilla Ferdinandi" donated property to the monastery of Ferreira by charter dated 17 Dec 1175, subscribed by "comes Gometius, comes Urgellensis"[2785]. She made a grant to Ferreira de Pallares 10 Feb 1187[2786].
