Thomas Munson came in the Elizabeth to Boston in 1634; rem. to Hartford and was of the Hartford Contingent under Capt. Mason at the destruction of the Pequot Fort. (See Hartford in the Olden Times); rem. to New Haven, 1642; offered one-third of an unclaimed allotment in the Governor's Wuarter on conditions that he never complied with, namely, that he would build a house thereon and devote himself to making wheels and ploughs for the good of the colony. In 1669 he was a commissioner with Samuel Bishop and three others, to meet five commisioners from Branford, to establish boundaries. In 1675 he commanded the New Haven troops who, at Norrituck, defended the plantation against the Indians. His military rank was Capt. He was representative in the General Assembly 24 sessions from 1666 to 1683; d. 1685; inv. (english pound)270. An agreement for distribution, signed June in, 1685, by Samuel Munson, Richard Higginbottom and Joseph Tuttle; movable divided between Elizabeth Higginbottom and Hannah Tuttle. His s. SAMUEL m. (II) Samuel , son of Thomas Munson , was baptized August 7, 1643, and married, October 26, 1665, Martha, daughter of William and Alice (Pritchard) Bradley. After his death, between January 10 and March 2, 1693, she married (second) 1694, Eliasaph Preston, 1758 born 1643 , died 1707, schoolmaster, second town clerk, and deacon of Wallingford. She married (third) Matthew Sherman.

Samuel Munson was made a freeman of New Haven in 1667, and in 1670 was one of the founders of the new plantation of Wallingford, Connecticut. He signed the agreement relative to the founding of the same, and was assigned one of the original houselots in the new town, besides a river or farm lot. April 6, 1671, he was present at the first town meeting, and April 29, 1673, also in 1674, was chosen selectman. June 17, 1674, he was made drummer. October 19, 1675, during King Philip's war, he was chosen ensign by the court at Hartford, and November 25 colony agent. In 1679 he was chosen the first schoolmaster of Wallingford, and in 1684 was made rector of Hopkins Grammar School. In the years 1676-80 he was auditor, and in 1677-78-80-81-92 he was lister. In 1680-81 he was again selectman, and in 1692 constable. The administration of his estate was given to his widow Martha and his son John.

II. Samuel Munson, born August 7, 1643, according to the New Haven First Church record, was married according to the town record October 26, 1665, to Martha, daughter of William and Alice (Pritchard) Bradley. Samuel died in 1693 in Wallingford, Connecticut. He was deputy from New Haven to the General Court of Connecticut, 1665, 1678, 1680, 1683. Samuel Munson with thirty-eight others of New Haven founded Wallingford, Connecticut. The General Court of Hartford on May 12, 1669, "doe grant liberty to make a village on the East River." Among the names signed to the agreement appear those of Samuel Munson, Thomas Yale, Thomas Curtis, Samuel Peck and John Peck, Joseph Benham, John Brockett and Nathaniel How. A record of the General Court October 19, 1675, reads: "This court confirms Samuel Munson ensigne Wallingford Traine Band."

He had a seat in the front row of the gallery, at the meeting house. Samuel was an original founder/planter of the town of Wallingford. He was a selectman of that town, a drummer, a land holder. During King Philip's War (Oct 1675), he was ensign in charge of the Wallingford Train Band. During the early years of Wallingford, Samuel's house was used for meetings. He held several positions of trust: such as collecting rates and seeing that the minister got paid. He was a lister, leather sealer, town treasusrer. In1679 he was chosen the town's first schoolmaster.<ref name="Munson" /> In 1682, Samuel returned to New Haven, "perhaps to make a home for hiswidowed father", perhaps to become master of the Hopkins Grammar School,"<ref name="Munson" /> where he taught for some time until he gave up the position to a graduate of Harvard.<ref name="Munson" /> In New Haven, Samuel held some of the same positions of trust that he held in Wallingford. He also continued to draw "division" land in Wallingford.<ref name="Munson" /> He drew his last lot on 10 Jan 1693 and his estate was inventoried 2 March 1692/3.<ref name="Munson" /> He may have been buried at the Center Church on the Green Churchyard in New Haven, as suggested by his Find a Grave Memorial.<ref>Find A Grave Memorial# 46902582</ref>
