Sarel Francois Alberts was born on 6 May 1872 on the farm Hartbeesfontein in the Hekpoort district.
His first military duty was under Commandant F.J. Potgieter at the Jameson raid. On 30 December 1895 with the Queens battery of Krugersdorp was the first time that he came under fire and the next day at the historic battle on the farm Doornkop he and his horse were both wounded. At the end of 1898 was he with the Krugerdorp commando in a battle against Magato in the Soutpansberg and Alberts was the adjudant to the commandant.
At the beginning of the Anglo Boer war he was once again the adjudant to Commandant F.J. Potgieter.
He took part in the battle of Talana hill as well as all the other battles that the Krugersdorp commando took part in.
On the evening prior to the battle of Pieter’s heights he was nominated by the burghers of ward 3 Krugersdorp to be their Assistant veldkornet and a few months later he was promoted by General S.F. Oosthuizen to the rank of Veldkornet.
On 24 June 1901 he was elected to the rank of Commandant by the Krugersdorp commando and served his commando until 5 February 1902 when he and a section of his men were caught on the farm Gruisfontein and send to St Helena as prisoners of war. He arrived back at Krugersdorp at the end of August 1902.
In 1914, as Commandant of his district, he joined the rebellion and was imprisoned. He was a member of the Union House of Assembly from 1921 to 1924 and again from 1929 to 1938
He became a Senator of the Union in 1938 and died on 10 June 1954 at Sterkfontein in the Limpopo province and was buried in the family cemetery on the farm Hartbeesfontein 118, Hekpoort district
