Theodorus "Theo" van Gogh was the father of painter Vincent van Gogh.



Rev. Theodorus van Gogh was one of six sons, and was the father of the famous artist, Vincent van Gogh. He studied theology at Utrecht. In 1849 he secured the living of Groot-Zundert, a little village in Brabant on the Belgian frontier, where he was confirmed by his father, Rev. Vincent Van Gogh. He married Anna Corneli Carbentus in May, 1851.

Biography

Ds. Theodorus van Gogh was one of six sons, and was the father of the famous artist, Vincent van Gogh. He studied theology at Utrecht. In 1849 he secured the living of Groot-Zundert, a little village in Brabant on the Belgian frontier, where he was confirmed by his father, Ds. Vincent van Gogh. He married Anna Corneli Carbentus in May, 1851.
Theodorus ("Dorus") van Gogh studied theology and became in 1849 a minister of the Dutch Reformed Church in Zundert (Noord-Brabrant), where the protestants were a small minority. His father was a Reverend as well, in the same region. In 1851 he married Anna Carbentus (1819-1907),the daughter of a bookseller. They had seven children. In 1871 he wasappointed in Helvoirt, in 1875 in Etten, in 1882 in Nuenen (all of these villages in the same region). In 1885 he suddenly died. Among his parishioners he was nicknamed "the handsome Reverend", but he was not a very talented preacher. (bio from findagrave.com)
