William Casey, Revolutionary War soldier, was born in 1759 in Franklin County, NC. He enlisted while living in 96 District SC. Following the war he moved to Wilkes County, GA, then to Morgan County, GA and later to Autauga & Shelby Counties, AL. In 1840 he was living with his son, Micajah Casey, in Coosa county, AL. According to his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Casey Manning, William Casey died in 1848. He is likely buried in Old Rockford Cemetery, Rockford, AL, but no records exist to indicate his final resting place.

William Casey's elaborate funeral has been remembered as one of the most bizarre in Kentucky. Casey had long been crippled up with arthritis and was unable to lie down. Before his death Casey requested being buried sitting in the same rocking chair and upright position he had been confined to for many years. He also requested that his tomb be lined with the brick he had been using to build a grand new house on a sloping rise of his Russell Creek property. Casey further requested that no stone be placed atop his grave, but that a tree be planted there. His requests were granted.
