EN: Until recently, living to 100 was considered a rare phenomenon. Within the past few years, however, with several hundred people reaching the century mark each month, scientists and laypeople alike are beginning to look upon these oldest of the old as beacons guiding us to a new, longer lived age.

DE: Bis vor kurzem galt zu 100 Leben ein seltenes Phänomen. In den letzten Jahren jedoch —mit mehreren Personen die jeden Monat der Jahrhundert-Marke erreichen— beginnen Wissenschaftlern und Laien gleichermaßen diese ältesten des alten als Leuchtfeuer zu sehen die uns in einem neuen Zeit führen konnen.

FR: Jusqu'à récemment, vivant à 100 était considéré comme un phénomène rare. Au cours des dernières années, toutefois, avec plusieurs centaines de personnes atteignant la marque de siècle, des scientifiques et des laïcs commencent à regardent ces plus vieux de la vieille comme balises qui nous peuvent guider vers une ère nouvelle, plus vécue.

NL: Tot voor kort werden 100-jarigen beschouwd als een zeldzaam verschijnsel. Maar meer recent --nu regelmatig mensen die magische grens overschrijden-- beginnen wetenschappers en leken eensgezind te zoeken naar ouderen die ons als bakens naar nieuwe tijden kunnen begeleiden. -jMu-

PT: Até recentemente, viver até 100 anos era considerado um fenômeno raro. Mas nos últimos tempos com várias centenas de pessoas alcançando a marca dos 100 anos a cada mês, cientistas e leigos estão começando a olhar para esses "velhos" como faróis guiando-nos para uma nova era de vida longa.
