I have seen this name spelled in many different ways, from Hirszprung to Hirschprung, and what not. The correct spelling should be Hirschsprung, with two “S”. The word Hirsch signifying "Deer" and the word Sprung, "Leap" or "Jump". It actually appears with this correct spelling on the first line of a family tree provided by Dan Hirschberg's website and has been obviously misspelled afterwards on account of either the carelessness of the old Polish administrations or the transcription from Yiddish to Polish, as it must have been the case. Many first names such as Kreindl are spelled indifferently Kreindel, Krendel, or Kreindla. they refer to the same person but these diffrerences make any coordination difficult if not impossible. Same is the case with Lebel which is sometimes spelled Leibel. We should therefore all agree with a common spelling. Preferably the one which makes more sense.
