About the Schermerhorn surname

My great, great grandmother, Anna Jerusha Schermerhorn (1850-1917) was the daughter of Henry Schermerhorn and Eliza Emerson. When she became a young woman, she fell in love with a farmer named Henry Miller. He was a Civil War veteran, who had fought in the war the entire duration. He volunteered at the age of 18.

Anna's parents told her that if she married the farmer (Henry), they would disown her and never speak to her again. She married Henry for love. She left and there was never any reconciliation. The Millers had several children, one of which was my great grandmother, Myra Isabelle 1870-1941. Myra and her husband, James Clarence Wilson, had 11 children. My grandmother was the 3rd born, Maude Olive Wilson. My grandmother and her 1st husband, Alva Porter Anderson, had two children: Carlos Wilson and Mignon Louise. My dad was Carlos. He and my mom, Betty, had 3 children: Raymond (1943-), me, Nancy (1946-) and Walter (1952-1917). My grandfather (Alva) died in 1927 at age 31. His widow (my GM) married later in 1935 to Ellis Johnson; they had one child, Jean (1939-). Mignon had 3 children with her husband Walter Knieriem. Sons: Alvin, Francis, and James.

Anna Jerusha Schermerhorn Miller has not been listed on any of the Schermerhorn's "family lists." Henry and Eliza kept their word to disown her--she was forgotten by one and all. However, birth records, marriage licenses, etc. prove her heritage. Also, my cousin, Donna Wilson Armstrong, has been doing ancestry research for a good 20 years with much funds invested in Revolutionary War soldiers (DAR), she has complete documentation of at least 10 or more soldiers. Names could be provided to prove their existence and war history.

Sincerely, Nancy Anderson Dublin March 5, 2020

I wanted to bring this information to the attention of the SCHERMERHORN family researchers because obviously no one likes to be overlook or their heritage denied.
