Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie is one of the best selling mystery novelists of all time. Over her long and distinguished career, Christie published over 90 books and 17 plays, and has been translated into over 100 different languages.

Christie was born on September 15, 1890 in England. She was the daughter of Frederick Alvah Miller, a wealthy American, and Clarissa Boehmer Miller, who was the daughter of Frederick Boemher, a British Army captain.

In 1914, Christie married Archibald Christie, an aviator in the Royal Flying Corps. One of the great mysteries surrounding Agatha’s life was her sudden disappearance after learning of her husband’s infidelity. Her disappearance garnered much media attention, and she was eventually found after 11 days. The couple divorced in 1928.

Christie’s second husband was British archaeologist Max Mallowan, who specialized in ancient Middle Eastern history. The couple remained married until her death in 1976.

Archibald and Agatha had one daughter, Rosalind Hicks. After her mother’s death, Rosalind devoted much of her life to protecting the reputation and integrity of her mother’s works. She founded the Agatha Christie Society. After her death, Rosalind’s son, Mathew Prichard, became the heir to the copyrights of Agatha’s works. Today, he continues to oversee his grandmother’s works and introduce them to new audiences.
