Featured Project: 2012 U.S. Federal Election

Today is election day in the United States. Have you been following the debates this election season? Which candidate will you pick, Democratic President Barack Obama or Republican candidate Mitt Romney?

Since the beginning of this election season, the 2012 U.S. Federal Election project has kept a close eye on the genealogy of each candidate. Thanks to the project, we can see how this year’s presidential hopefuls are related!

With the polls showing both candidates neck and neck, this Election Day might be the closest election in years. Will Romney top his distant cousin and take the presidency or will President Obama win a second term in office? That’s right – Mitt Romney is President Obama’s 10th cousin twice removed!

In one of the most memorable moments of the campaign, Clint Eastwood stole the show at the Republican National Convention with his speech to an empty chair occupied by an invisible Barack Obama. Did you watch the actor throw his support behind his 9th cousin, Mitt Romney? By the way, his invisible relative, President Obama, is his 10th cousin twice removed.
