Featured Project: Nobel Prize Winners

This week’s featured project highlights Nobel Prize Winners on Geni. Since 1901, the Nobel Prize has been awarded annually for achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature and peace. In his will, Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel requested that his vast fortune be used to create a series of prizes for those who’s achievements provide the greatest benefit to mankind. As of 2010, there has been a total of 813 individuals who have been awarded the Nobel Prize. There are currently 61 profiles included in the project, perhaps you’ll want to help add some more!

Here’s a look at a few of the profiles:

Winston Churchill – In 1953, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature for his numerous published works.

Martin Luther King, Jr. – In 1964, King received the Nobel Prize in Peace for his work to end racial segregation and discrimination through nonviolent means. He became the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize.

Elie Wiesel – Author Elie Wiesel was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986. Calling him a “messenger to mankind,” Wiesel delivered a powerful message “of peace, atonement and human dignity” to humanity.

Andrew Huxley – In 1963, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.

Nelson Mandela – In 1993, Mandela was jointly awarded with F. W. de Klerk the Nobel Peace Prize for their work in ending the apartheid in South Africa.
