Featured Project: Prominent Historians and Philosophers

This week we highlight the Prominent Historians and Philosophers project. This project houses a collection of Geni profiles for those notable thinkers who have made major contributions to our understandings of the world. Take a look at a few of the profiles included:

Voltaire – French Enlightenment writer Voltaire was famous for his advocacy of civil liberties and social reform. His witty essays, poems and historical works were a great influence on the thinkers of both the American and French Revolutions.

John Locke – He was an English philosopher and highly influential Enlightenment thinker. Known as the “Father of Liberalism,” Locke’s philosophies played a significant role in the drafting of the American Declaration of Independence.

Mary Wollstonecraft – She was an English philosopher and advocate of women’s rights. Wollstonecraft’s writings argued that both men and women should be treated as rational beings and that women only appeared to be inferior due to their lack of education.

Noam Chomsky – Chomsky is an American linguist, philosopher and cognitive scientist. Known as the father of modern linguistics, Chomsky’s work revolutionized the study of the relationship between language and the mind.

Simone de Beauvoir – She was a French existentialist philosopher and best known for her metaphysical novels, including The Second Sex.
