Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July, everyone! Today is a federal holiday here in the United States; a day dedicated to remembering the conceptual birth of America. Since many of us have today off, it’s a great time to read up about the history of Independence Day. As featured recently, we have a great project on Geni called Signers of the “Declaration of Independence”: Colonial America in 1776 Project. This is a great place to start, but that’s far from the only applicable project. I suggest also taking a look at The Continental Congress Project, George Washington Slept Here, and the US Presidents and Vice Presidents Project.

Using Geni’s world family tree, let’s take a moment to see how a few of the founding fathers of the United States were related to each other:

Caesar Rodney, Signer of "The Declaration of Independence" is George Washington, 1st President of the USA's 9th cousin twice removed!

John Adams, 2nd President of the USA, Signer of the Declaration of Independence is John Hancock, Signer of the "Declaration of Independence", 4th and 13th President of the Continental Congress' fourth cousin once removed!

Gov. Benjamin Harrison, Signer of the "Declaration of Independence" is Thomas Jefferson 3rd President of America's uncle's brother!
