Betsy Ross

Today, June 14, is Flag Day in the U.S., commemorating the day the Second Continental Congress adopted the Stars and Stripes as the flag of the United States. In honor of Flag Day, today we highlight Betsy Ross, who is widely believed to have been commissioned by George Washington to make the very first American flag in 1776. Although there is little evidence to prove the legend, Betsy Ross has become a significant symbol in American history.
