Calamity Jane
On May 1, 1852, American frontierswoman and folk hero Calamity Jane was born. She was infamous for her riding and shooting skills and a close friend of Wild Bill Hickok. Her compassion and kindness, especially to the sick and needy, distinguished her from other notable figures in the Wild West.
