Cassius Clay

On October 19, 1810, abolitionist Cassius Clay was born in Madison County, Kentucky. Although his family was one of the wealthiest landowners and slaveholders in the south, Clay was a prominent anti-slavery crusader. He worked toward emancipation during his three terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives and published the anti-slavery newspaper True American.

Did you know Henry Clay is his second cousin?
