On May 23, 1883, silent film star Douglas Fairbanks was born in Denver, Colorado. Dubbed the “King of Hollywood” during the 1920’s, Fairbanks was known as one of the leading stars of the silent film era. He won audiences over for his swashbuckling roles as Robin Hood and Zoro and also proved to be an astute businessman, launching the film studio United Artist in 1919 in partnership with Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford and D.W. Griffith.
