President Franklin D. Roosevelt

On December 7, 1941, the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor was attacked by Japanese bombers. Over 2,400 Americans were killed during the surprise attack. The next day, President Franklin D. Roosevelt declared, “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy – the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.” After his forceful speech, he swiftly called on Congress to declare war against Japan.
