Grace Kelly was born on November 12, 1929 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to a very affluent family. Her father John B. Kelly, Sr., a three-time Olympic gold medalist, was once appointed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as the National Director of Physical Fitness. Her mother, Margaret Majer, taught physical education at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was the first female to coach women’s athletic teams at the institution.
During the 1950s, Kelly was one of the highest paid and most respected actresses in the world. She starred in many classic Alfred Hitchcock films, including Rear Window and To Catch a Thief. Despite being at the height of her career, she retired from acting after marrying Rainier III, the Prince of Monaco. Hollywood’s favorite leading lady had become a real life princess.
