Profile of the Day: James Monroe
On April 28, 1758 James Monroe, the fifth President of the United States, was born. His presidency is commonly referred to as the “Era of Good Feelings,” a period in U.S. politics with little partisan strife. Monroe is best remembered for his proclamation of the Monroe Doctrine, which stated that any European attempt to colonize the Americas would be viewed as a sign of aggression.
