Jim Thorpe

On May 28, 1888, athlete Jim Thorpe was born in Prague, Oklahoma. Considered one of the most versatile athletes of modern sports, Thorpe won Olympic gold medals for the 1912 decathlon and pentathlon, played American football and professional baseball and basketball. He was a mix of European and Native American ancestry and raised in the Sac and Fox nation in Oklahoma. His native name was Wa-Tho-Huk, which translates as “path lighted by great flash of lightening.”
