Profile of the Day: Peter II of Russia
On October 23, 1715, Peter II of Russia was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was the only son of Tsarevich Alexie Petrovich, who was the son of Peter the Great. Peter II’s father was accused of treason by Peter the Great and died in prison. From a young age, Peter II was kept in seclusion, with little attention paid towards his education. It wasn’t until the reign of Catherine the Great that it became clear to those in power that the grandson of Peter the Great could not be kept out of his inheritance much longer.
