Profile of the Day: Sir Edmund Hillary
Yesterday, December 11, was International Mountain Day. It was designated by the United Nations as a day to create awareness of the role mountains play to life and highlight the importance of sustainable mountain development. In honor of International Mountain Day, today we highlight explorer and mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary. On May 29, 1953, Hillary and Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer Tenzing Norgay became the first climbers known to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
