Happy birthday to Steve Martin! Today the actor turns 79.

Martin was born on August 14, 1945 in Waco, Texas to Mary Lee Stewart and Glenn Vernon Martin. When he was young, his family moved to southern California. As a teen, he became a cheerleader in high school and got his first job at Disneyland selling guidebooks and performing magic tricks.
In 1977, Martin got his big break as a guest host on the late-night sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live. He has since starred in several hit films including The Jerk, The Three Amigos! and Cheaper by the Dozen.
Did you know that Martin is also a successful writer and musician? He has written novellas, novels, and even a children’s book. A banjo player from a young age, Martin has also won a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.
Currently, Martin stars in the hit Hulu comedy series Only Murders in the Building, for which he recently received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. He stars alongside Martin Short and Selena Gomez, who each also received Emmy nods for their performances.
