Profile of the Day: Timothy Dalton

Timothy Dalton

Who is your favorite James Bond? On this day in 1946, License to Kill star Timothy Dalton was born in Colwyn Bay, Wales.

He was the oldest of five children born to Peter Dalton-Leggett and Dorthy Scholes. His father was a captain in the Special Operations Executive during World War II. When he was young, it seemed Dalton would follow his father’s footsteps into the military. As a teen, he was even a member of the Air Training Corps. However, after seeing a production of Macbeth at the age of 16, Dalton knew he wanted to pursue a career in acting.

Dalton had been considered for the role of James Bond several times before making his first appearance as 007 in the 1987 film, The Living Daylights.  Dalton’s portrayal of Bond was grittier and more serious compared to previous incarnations of the character. He would play the iconic character on the big screen twice before returning to theater. Since leaving Bond behind, Dalton has taken on a series of versatile roles on stage, television, and film.
