Are you watching the XXII Olympic Winter Games taking place in Sochi, Russia? Although initial reports depict less than ideal conditions at the games for the first time Olympic hosts, the athletes have brought their A-game as they compete against the best of the best from all over the world.

If you’re a big fan of these winter sports, here’s your chance to bring your love of the winter games and genealogy together – the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics project on Geni. Join the project to see how you’re related to this year’s crop of Olympic athletes or help build out the tree for those not yet added to Geni.

Did your cousin win the gold? Norwegian cross-country skier Marit Bjørgen is a two-time gold medalist at Sochi. Visit the sub-project, Winter Olympic Medalists – 2014 Sochi project, to see the trees of other medalists, including those for U.S. figure skating competitors Ashley Wagner and Grace Gold

Don’t forget to check out other sub-projects for the Winter Olympic games, which break down the athletes by country teams, including those for Great Britain and the United States. Don’t see your country represented? You can join in on the fun by creating a project and start building the family trees for your country’s Olympic athletes. Once they are connected to the World Family Tree, we can all see how we’re related!
