Dear Fellow researcher,

where is the evidence that Peter is the son of James? Peter came to Maryland in 1661. Alone as a child?
Eme and her son James came with her second husband Nicholas Johnson to America. James her first husband died before.
James and Eme had only two children. James and William. There are church records about the marriage of James and Eme, about the birth/christening of their children and the second marriage of Eme.
I could not find a Peter in the church records which I have looked through.
And where is the evidence that the female persons kept the name La..F...?
Who was the first female who did so, so we can do more research on her.
Ancestry, for example is just a databases to give you a hint to do more research. Not everything you can find there or on other websites is proved.
All people I have ever asked about a record or evidence were not able to give it to me. If there is a person out there who has evidences and records please let us know.
What we all need are these records and evidences to do more good research.

Great questions, D.

I see you have added some documents recently and have 'tagged' them to a few profiles (such as Emaline Fugate) -- great!

(For everyone: here is a bit on how to do "Sourcing" on Geni: https://www.geni.com/blog/geni-tips-how-to-add-sources-to-profiles-...)

James Mariner Fugate born 1630 died 1651 June 8 Wife Anne Emaline Lamb. Found English birth and christening records. Had three son Peter James Born 1650 James Born 1652 and his Brother William born and died in 1652. James became known as not only a mariner/planter, He also is known as James II, I believe he first married Jane Armelies Lawton they probable had one son called or referred to as old James. He married Dorothy Petty or pettus in 1675 and their is no proof that they had children. They were together or married for 8 years and both had other children with others, so it is hard to believe they did not have children.

i havr been researching the Fugate line since 1976 and have reams of hard copy books, I pulled out some of them and found things that are useful and not on web sites at this time. I have had my DNA done twice and am on Ancestry.com at 88 years old, I have most of the Fugates in my line commented to memory. would enjoy any data supported by facts as there is a lot of junkout there where folks just accept everything others put on line,

I believe Don is on a good trail, about Both James II and Peter B 1650 both marring Dorothy. James II disallows any association with Dorothy in a settlement Dated 1699 for the past 16 years. I believe that the concept of Emaline marrying Johnson and bring her son James who had to have been before Dec 18 1653 if james II is the father for he died 8 June 1651. It is even logical that William and James II were twins and that he was Christened in Dec 18 1653. It is the same with Peter Adeline Fugate born 1685 died 1640 and Tobias Fugate born 1585 died 1640 and Elizabeth Fuller born 1588 Died 1640. I believe they all died of the Bubonic Plague which was happening 1637 to 1640 in England and particularly in the Isle of Wight where all of the French Huguenots landed.

Robert J. Fugate claims to have found English birth and christening records for James 1, Emeline, Peter James b 1650, James b 1652 and brother William born and died 1652. The only date in his comment that is correct, is the marriage date of 1675 for James 2 and Dorothy. I've found a christening record for a James, son of Henry Fucket and Marian Cane - christened in June of 1632, I believe on the 6th, but there is no proof this is the same James who was married to Emeline Lambe. The marriage record for James and Emeline was 8 Jun 1651. There is no birth or Christening record for Peter which means there is zero proof he was son of James and Emeline. Their first son William was b 20 May 1652 and Christened 3 days later on 23 May. The next record found for William was 5 Jun 1652 when he was buried. The next record for a child of James and Emeline is for son James 2, christened 18 Jun 1653. The next record for James 1 is the date his will was proved - 12 Apr 1656 in Jamaica, West Indies. It names his widow as Emeline. His widow, Emeline, next marries a Nicholas Johnson, 29 Dec 1656 just months after the death of her first husband James. The first record in America for Peter is the request filed for headrights for bringing 8 people to Maryland. one of them being Peter Fooket. It was filed by George Goldsmith on 23 Sept 1661. So we know he was here as early as Sept 1661. The remainder of records found for Peter are mostly land records, a few tax lists, birth records for 2 children, John b 27 Feb 1688 in Muskeeta Creek and Ann b 14 Mar 1692 in Spesutia Creek. Peter and wife, Frances Mould are named in a land transfer dated 4 July 1690 when they sold the land on Muskeeta Creek and moved to Spesutia Creek. Those records appear in St. John Parish records on pg 2. Some have a Martin Fugate b 1690 as the son of Peter and Frances but no record of his birth is posted in the parish record that I have found. There are three other people who are believed to be children of Peter and a likely wife - as of yet unproven. Those children are Josias b 1672, James of 1676 and Esther 1685. None of these three are in parish christening records because records weren't kept until 1685/86 in Baltimore County. These years of birth come from other records where their ages are listed - for Josias, it is a tax exmpt record dated 1637 in King George County, VA - that declares him as tax exempt. That usually happened when a person reached the age of 65. Do the math and 1672 is year of birth. The year of birth for James of 1676 is based on a record of three lifetime leases dated Nov 1742 where his age is given as 66. Do the math and you get his year of birth as 1676. Esther/Easter Fugate year of birth comes from her marriage record in Oct 1702, she is listed as age 18 which makes her year of birth 1685. The last year Peter appears in tax records in Baltimore County is 1695, which is why most people claim he died in 1695 but he appears two times more after that, in a 1699 will where he is owed money and again in a 1701 will where he is shown as "Dead". So we have date of death for Peter as between Sept 1699 and Nov 1701. No will has been found for him. No guardianship records have been found for his two children with Frances Mould. They would have been 11 and 6 years of age, which means Peter's will wouldn't have been settled until they reached the age of majority or married. No records appear for either child until John of 1688 sells land left to his mother by her father, John Mould. The land was in Charles County and John was 29 when he sold the land. I've not found much info on Ann. There are a couple of family trees who name her as Ann Jarrett. No proof of that but I followed Fugate's as they traveled to other places from Maryland, and there are Jarrett's who moved along with them. It is the same with Esther who married a John Davis. I've not found her or her children after her marriage in 1702 but there are Davis' who followed the Fugate's from Maryland to Virginia. While it is not proven that Josias or James of 1676 or Esther of 1685 are children of Peter and unproven first wife, Mary D. Fugate believes they are his. There is no other adult male Fugate who lived in Baltimore County who was old enough to have fathered those three. Mary very seldom ever said anything that wasn't factual, so for her to make this claim is pretty significant. At one time I beleived that Josias was the son of James 2 and his first wife, Dorothy Petty/Pettus, After a deep dive into the records for the earlist few Fugate's, I no longer believe that to be true. James and Dorothy weren't even in Maryland until 1681 at the earliest. They were living on the estate of James' mother's third husband, Captain Richard Loes, in Rappahannock County, VA until 1680 at least. I do not believe that Peter's proven wife, Frances Mould was old enough to have birthed these three Fugate's as her parents were not married until April or June of 1669 - that is based on a court document where Ann Posey asknowledges receiving the land left to her in the will of her stepfather, John Belaine. The will leaves half of John's estate to his wife, Elizabeth and her two children and the other half of the estate to his children with Elizabeth, Nicholas and Grace Belaine. It is the third husband of this Elizabeth, Alexander Smith, who takes care to see that John's wishes are carried out as they are listed in his will. Each of the named heirs sign acknowledgement in different years. When all four have acknowledged receipt of their inheritance, Alexander then files all four of the acknowledgements, together, in court. All of this is written from memory and the date this record is filed is in 1679 or 80. I don't remember which date. I have the records to prove everything I stated here about all of these people. Some have already been posted but will post the others as I have time.

Mrs. Sullivan Believes one must have a confirmed birth record and a death record. Based on that we do not have a death record for either Peter 1650 or James II, nor do we know who peter 1650 father is, So according to her approach they do not exist. Here are facts passed down from my Great grandfather Martin Fugate Born 1820 in TN, died in Perry County KY. He stated to my grandfather Gabriel Fugate and he told my father that he was of French Origin. So I knew from my start of searching my Fugate lines that I would get back to France. My DNA trail has lead me to the NW corner of France. At that point it is only 26 miles across the English Channel. You could have crossed it during calm seas with a paddle long boat in about 8 hours.

In Ancestry trees there are at least 1687 trees showing the same info that I have which Mrs. Sullivans does not believe. I worked with David Faris and Mary Fugate in the early 1900's. I know that my latest info is not completely supported data, but it is data that is out there and it fits. I have trees in FTDNA Family Search.

Mrs. Sullivans likes to be in charge and what she has is always right. If you cross her you will get the blurg she wrote about me in the item I am responding too above.

I know for sure that the Bible record currently being used is a corrupted version of what the original was, If you using that you have some incorrect information.

Again we do not know who Peter 1650 father is; however we do know that he said he was born in France. When he came to the Colonies he had to naturalized, because he was French. We do not know where Peter 1650 was until he arrived in the Colonies at about 11 or so years old. The ship that brought him here departed from London England, so if he was not living in England or he at least passed through England.

I do not believe that all of the perfect data was recorded to fill in all the blanks or holes in the Fugate line. I believe almost all people information has some valuable data, bit and pieces we can fir together with others to create the best trees we can.

As for Josias's Birthday the record I found clearly show it was done 1737 where he is exempt from taxes, so 1737 minus 65 equal 1672 for his birthday.

If you are looking for someone to work with you and combine your data to come up with the better data, she is not the one you want to deal with and surely not someone I want to deal with anymore.

I have been tracing the Fugate line for over 50 years. I am very happy with my tress so if anyone wants to blend their work with mine or just discuss pro's and con's I welcome that.
