i was asked by Geni to choose the correct name for Simon Swaab. this can only occur when two duplicates were merged with different names. hence my question

yes, i know i can merge duplicate profiles, but my point was that i have intention of merging duplicate trees from uploads. apparently such trees can now be isolated and dealt with. hence my first message

should read

...i have NO intention...

Hi Private User, it’s no problem if you don’t want to merge but it is not a curator role to do merges that others are capable of.

With regard to isolating newer trees it is a tool that needs to be used carefully and usually only on pre 1600 profiles unless there is something fundamentally wrong with the new profiles. It is not a tool that we can use just so that existing managers can retain sole management of profiles.

Thank you Private User! I have just been informed by others that another profile has been deleted as well--one for Thomas Bass with 5 managers. Problem is many of these profiles are jumbled/mushed and just WRONG but I have been asked by Bass Group and family members to help get them organized and help get them correct. I can certainly understand people's frustration but this is NOT ok and I appreciate your help Anne

To the best of my knowledge I reinstated the lost people, and gave back the names of unnamed people. If I missed anybody let me know.

I merged two trees and have somehow duplicated Leonard because he also figures as the son of Jeanette Lemmel when he is really Gittel Leibel's son. I am going round and round in circles but I can't sort it out. Could you have a go and if not I will have to ask for a curator's help.
Sorry. I have been at the computer too long. I should never have merged the trees.

Allan Michael Huss, the solution was as simple as disconnecting Leonard from his non-mother Jeanette (the other wife of his father Simon). The rest of the branch looks perfect.

The parents for Johann Baptist Schreiber, {speculated origins} are wrong. Funnily enough a person with the same name was born the same day (or a day apart) but in Southern Germany rather than Northern Germany and those are the parents of the southern German person. Someone at Familysearch made a wrong connection and some people at MyHeritage followed suit, which made this mess complete.

you completely missed my point. i dont give a hood about who manages a profile.. i'm just mordicus against people being able to upload tons of duplicate profiles and leave others to merge them. it's a complete waste of time.
this only arised when Geni introduced the Gedcom upload tool (NEW). Geni never did anything to prevent this from happening or to improve. very VERY disappointing

Private User I feel your pain. Gedcom is something we live with. It is scary to expect a newbee who uploads to be knowledgeable enough to fix the merges. I spend part of my Geni time cleaning Gedcoms, so if you want help, holler.

These two profiles are duplicates and theoretically should be merged, but the profile added in September of 2019 has a lot of consistency check issues and duplicate profiles. I think it might be from a GEDCOM download.

What is the best way to handle this?
